MES  Forschungssysteme – Brain Products’ daughter or are we our own grandmother?

Today I would like to take the chance to tell you more about us, MES Forschungssysteme GmbH.

Since 2021 MES Forschungssysteme GmbH is a daughter of Brain Products, which historically makes us our own grandmother. “How´s that?” you may ask. Well, let me give you some brief background information:

MES Forschungssysteme – Brain Products’ daughter or are we our own grandmother?

MES (back then strictly speaking “MES Medizinelektronik A. Svojanovsky”) was founded in 1982 by Erich Svojanovsky, who most of you may know as the nice guy with the red pullover. Already back then, Erich represented several international suppliers and offered equipment for neurophysiology research applications in Germany. Over the course of the years, through his continuous exchange and close collaborations with multiple labs and the scientific community Erich and his son Alex concluded that alternative neurophysiological research solutions (EEG) were needed. Therefore, Alex set up a new company to develop the state-of-the-art hard- and software solutions for EEG research, which neuroscientists desired and deserved for their pioneering neuroimaging studies. So, in 1997 Brain Products was born and the rest is history, leading to examples like, the collaborative development of the BrainAmp MR, a groundbreaking EEG/fMRI amplifier or the inception of BrainVision Analyzer – a user-friendly and comprehensive analysis software.

This also explains why, unlike the rest of the Brain Products subsidiary network, our name and logo does not directly reflect our close affiliation with Brain Products in the same way as our sister companies’ names and logos do.

MES has been the official and sole distributor of Brain Products’ solutions in the German and Swiss region since the early 2000s. Additionally, initiating partnerships with leading manufacturers, including EASYCAP, NIRx, Resonance Technology, CGX, Cedrus, Tobii, VPixx and many others has extended our portfolio and enabled us to continuously meet the requirements of our users throughout the past ~20 years.

In 2021 we also took over the user care for Austria, becoming responsible for the entire D-A-CH region. One year later, Ursula Sailer and Dr. Barış Yeşilyurt took over the general management of MES from Jens Grunert who had steered the company and contributed significantly to its growth for more than 12 years.

Covering a larger regional area and representing more and more manufacturers, also requires more staff, of course. So, it is my pleasure to (re)-introduce our current team:

Combining EEG and eye tracking: a workflow for your mobile experiment

From left to right: Ursula Sailer (General Manager, Operations), Lydia Timm, Ph.D. (Scientific Support & Sales, Marketing), Edyta Charyasz (Scientific Support & Sales), Andrea Gschwandtner (Office Management), Dr. Barış Yeşilyurt (General Manager, Support & Sales), Dr. Anirudh Unni (Scientific Support & Sales).

With the new team members who joined us in late 2023 (Edyta & Anirudh) and anticipating those who will hopefully join us soon,  our office in Etterschlag became a bit too small. Therefore, we moved to a new, more spacious location – just 3 km down the road – in February 2024.
